The Intermediate Engineer / Technologist will be engaged in low to high voltage design, testing and support efforts within the Oil and Gas industry. This position requires involvement in the delivery of electrical scope associated with related project efforts within our Electrical Engineering Team in order to meet the expectations of the project, schedule and customer.

The Intermediate Engineer / Technologist will function both independently engaging on various project related design and support efforts, as well as working as part of a comprehensive team working with other technical staff, Project Managers and customers. This engineering role will require an understanding of and experience in motor control centers, switchgears, breakers, transformers, neutral grounding resistors, instrument transformers and protection and control.

Areas of Accountability

The Intermediate Engineer / Technologist will be responsible for project execution including:

  • Under the direction of the Project Manager and Senior Technical Managers, participate in the technical design and implementation for electrical system projects
  • Participate in the development of design basis documents, specifications, cost estimates, and scopes of work
  • Complete power system studies including power flow, fault current, protection coordination, arc flash, and motor starting
  • Prepare electrical single lines, AC schematics, breaker control schematics, and protection schematics
  • Complete AC and DC station service studies including battery bank sizing
  • Prepare construction bid documents and construction work packages
  • In coordination with Corporate Procurement, select equipment vendors and procure equipment
  • Interface with customers and vendors on technical issues
  • Produce detailed design documentation that meets the technical and quality standards of the project requirements
  • Participate in acceptance testing and ensure deficiencies are addressed

Qualification Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelors in Engineering or a Diploma in Technology in a related field
  • 3 – 6 years of experience in electrical engineering projects
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Strong command of the English language (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong personal relationships
  • Working knowledge of the Oil & Gas and Electrical Utility marketplace
  • Experience with working on multiple projects
  • Effective organization skills
  • Able to travel throughout Western Canada (travel requirement of 10 – 20%)
