Role

The Senior Engineer / Technologist will be experienced in low to high voltage design, testing and support efforts within the Oil and Gas and/or the Electric Utility industry. This position will have overall responsibility for the delivery of electrical scope associated with related project efforts within our Electrical Engineering Team in order to meet the expectations of the project, schedule and customer.

The Senior Engineer / Technologist will function both independently engaging on various project related design and support efforts as well as working as part of a comprehensive team working with other technical staff, Project Managers and customers. This senior role will require a strong understanding of and experience in motor control centers, switchgears, breakers, transformers, neutral grounding resistors, generators, instrument transformers and protection and control.

The individual within this role will be able to adapt to various situations quickly while maintaining the highest level of professionalism. The individual will possess strong trouble shooting abilities and be able to formulate comprehensive strategies for resolving project and design challenges presented.

Areas of Accountability

The Senior Engineer / Technologist will be responsible for project execution including:

  • Under the direction of the Project Manager, participate in or lead the technical design and implementation for electrical power distribution, substation, and generation projects involving multiple design disciplines
  • Develop design basis documents, specifications, cost estimates, and scopes of work
  • Complete and/or lead, as required, design activities including power system studies, electrical single lines, equipment layout, schematics, wiring, area classification, grounding, battery bank sizing, protection and control panels, and lighting
  • Prepare electrical construction bid documents and construction work packages
  • In coordination with Corporate Procurement, select equipment vendors and procure equipment
  • Interface with customers and vendors on technical issues
  • Produce detailed design documentation that meets the technical and quality standards of the project requirements
  • Participate in acceptance testing and ensure deficiencies are addressed
  • Support proposal development and participate in customer presentations as required

Qualification Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelors in Engineering or a Diploma in Technology in a related field
  • 6 – 10 years of experience in electrical engineering projects
  • Experience making technical and commercial / business decisions
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Strong command of the English language (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong personal relationships
  • Working knowledge of the Oil & Gas and Electrical Utility marketplace
  • Experience with working on multiple projects
  • Effective organization and team coordination skills
  • Able to travel throughout Western Canada (travel requirement of 10 – 20%)
