Job Title: Instrumentation Technologist – Intermediate/Senior

ROLE:

The Intermediate Electrical Designer / Drafter will perform work that involve conventional formats of designs with relatively few complex features for which precedents have been previously established. They will exhibit a thorough working knowledge of technical and drafting techniques (AutoCAD and 3D modeling) and be able to produce finished design packages with minimal guidance.

The Intermediate Electrical Designer / Drafter will gather information from all sources required, including other disciplines, vendors, engineers, reference drawings and catalogs to produce complete, functional and constructible design packages. The individual will be responsible for the construction of scenarios from various information sources, consider alternatives, develop details and follow through with solid workable solutions for design problems.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The Intermediate Electrical Designer / Drafter will be responsible for project execution including:

  • Prepare electrical designs for small to medium sized projects
  • Apply design knowledge in area classification, power distribution, grounding, lighting, control systems, cabinetry and equipment specification and selection
  • Providing drafting services using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Perform 3D modeling as required by project
  • Produce 2D electrical design deliverables in accordance with client specifications and policies to a high-quality standard using the latest software
  • Participate in Field Investigation studies and develop accurate reports / sketches for use in project design efforts
  • Interact with all disciplines at project meetings, model reviews, etc.
  • Collaborate with E&IC engineers to provide support, assistance, contribute solutions and introduce efficiencies
  • Participate in design coordination with engineers and other technical discipline design leads in the completion of drawing packages
  • Review and check design drawings and vendor shop drawings
  • Contribute to estimating, scheduling and status reporting on assigned projects
  • Independently evaluate, select and apply standard design techniques, procedures and criteria

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5+ years of experience in oil & gas industry in the field of electrical engineering design
  • 2-year SAIT/NAIT or equivalent diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Design skills and knowledge of electrical/control system design
  • Working familiarity with CEC (Canadian Electrical Code), other applicable codes, standards and acceptable industry practices
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling and application of discipline-specific design criteria, codes, standard practices and theories
  • In-depth understanding of the design process and documentation required throughout the phases of a project
  • Demonstrated ability to complete jobs through all phases, from conception through close-out

ROLE:

The Intermediate Automation Programmer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, testing and commissioning of control systems for Catch Engineering.  The role includes interfacing with the design and engineering departments at Catch Engineering to ensure the seamless delivery of products and solutions to our clients.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The Automation Programmer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the configuration and programming of many major brands of PLC, DCS, HMI/SCADA equipment, such as Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Legacy PLC’s), ScadaPak, GE, Schneider, Siemens DeltaV and Honeywell. 
  • Develop, analyze and check shutdown keys and control narratives of various size and complexity.
  • Review P&ID’s and provide information and insight for reviews and HAZOP exercises.
  • Develop and maintain databases for control, measurement and historical processes.
  • Responsible for on-site control system installation and commissioning, including Factory Acceptance Testing (our current ratio is 90% office and 10% field work).
  • Support engineers on the Engineering team in providing input relative to control system equipment specification and architecture design.
  • Perform audits and reviews of existing control system configurations and provide recommendations for deficiency resolution and optimization opportunities.
  • Assist in developing internal processes to effectively manage projects, resources and time.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5+ years of experience with PLC/DCS control system implementation, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Programming and configuration experience with at least one of the following PLC / DCS manufacturers & platforms (more is an asset):
    • Rockwell (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, SLC, PLC5)

  • HMI / SCADA development experience with at least one of the following platforms:

The Intermediate Engineer / Technologist will function both independently engaging on various project related design and support efforts as well as working as part of a comprehensive team working with other technical staff, Project Managers and customers.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The Intermediate Engineer / Technologist will be responsible for project execution including:

  • Under the direction of the Project Manager and Senior Technical Managers, participate in the technical design and implementation for electrical and control system projects
  • Participate in the development of design basis documents, specifications, cost estimates, and scopes of work
  • Complete as required, cable tray designs, voltage drop calculations, conductor sizing, control/marshaling panel designs, I/O schematics, power distribution, field junction boxes, cable schedules, etc.
  • Prepare electrical construction bid documents
  • In coordination with Corporate Procurement, select equipment vendors and procure equipment
  • Participate in the installation of electrical and control system equipment
  • Interface with customers and vendors on technical issues
  • Produce detailed design documentation that meets the technical and quality standards of the project requirements.

ROLE:

This position would be consistent with the role expected from a Project Controls / Scheduler working within the Oil and Gas industry in an Engineering and Procurement capacity. AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The Project Controls / Scheduler will be responsible for:

  • Develop project and allocate budget at appropriate for project tasks.
  • Prepare or assist in the development and implementation of project baseline budgets.
  • Prepare forecast, cost trend reports and monitor cost and budget forecasts.
  • Review project scope change and change order requests for proper justification, schedule impacts and adequate budget.
  • Report project cost to management for internal reviews as well as analyzing cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure that relevant cost management procedures and reporting requirements are incorporated.
  • Assist with the setup, tracking and analyzing engineering man-hours and associated costs.
  • Work with Project Coordinators and Client’s designated staff.
  • Review Contract terms and conditions with Project Lead.
  • Advice Financial Controller and/or Project Management of any foreign currency risk or other related exposure exists.
  • Ensure procurement/planning concurs with the estimated costs at completion.
  • Coordinate special requests from Project Lead
  • Prepare narrative and cost reports for the monthly progress reports
  • Ensure integrity and completeness of project files (contract/purchase orders/variation orders/invoices/etc.).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Create and review tools and templates for the company.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Along with an enthusiastic and professional attitude, you must also have:

  • 5+ years of experience in Project Controls
  • Proven computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Strong verbal/written communication and networking skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities and work independently
  • Experience working on multiple projects with the capability to accomplish results within established timelines
